Abstract

Years after an experience, you see it differently. You see it clearly. An event seems vivid right when it happens, but only time can show you what it meant and what it really taught you. Take junior high school. When you’re in it, you don’t care about learning—only surviving. The class bully wants a piece of you. You can’t hit a baseball. You can’t dance. Girls reject you. You’re wearing floods. You’re not cool. The following stories, as true as 1 can tell them, try to make adult sense out of junior high. They may not be your stories, but then again, maybe they are.
