Abstract
This paper provides a literature review on the complex and interrelated issues surrounding the lack of minority teachers in California public schools. This paper focuses on the relationship between the inadequate and unequal education for ethnic and racial minority students in California and nationwide. The paper is divided into three main parts: Why we need minority teachers, what are the factors that contribute to this shortage, and a brief review of strategies used by California schools of higher education for recruitment and retention of minority teachers.
