Abstract
This Masters project is a source of information on the art therapy profession as it is practiced in West Germany today. The focus of this paper will be on the two major approaches to art therapy in West Germany, anthroposophical art therapy and psychotherapeutic art therapy, which have developed apart from each other and have lacked contact and exchange to the present.
The data contained in this paper was collected through literature research as well as through guided interviews of practitioners of both approaches about the application and methods used in their work. Art work of patients is included to demonstrate the art therapist's procedure in therapy. This paper concludes with the description of mutualities and differences in the practical application of both approaches.
