Abstract/Description
A Tear in the Canvas combines the separate thesis projects of a Graphic Design student and an English Creative Writing student to develop a multimedia creative project, incorporating both creative writing and photography in order to tell a story. The project explores supernatural and horror elements through both written and visual media in order to design an immersive, sensory experience. Each photograph connects to an aspect of the written story, which is structured as a collection of fiction stories and poetry. Through both visual and written narrative, the story follows a young girl who finds herself facing adversity within the dimension of the supernatural, meeting friends along the way who help her find the way out while facing deeper horrors of their own.
The two mediums enhance each other; working as one to tell a story and becoming something different and stronger together neither could be apart. A Tear in the Canvas strives to create something mysterious and dreamlike within the horror genre, and asks viewers to wonder about life, the spirit, and the mind.
