Abstract/Description
The gluten-free market has exploded exponentially within the past ten years as research has discovered that people with Celiac’s Disease can live a healthy life as long as his or her diet eliminates gluten. However, due to this discovery it has led a rise of consumers who are buying gluten-free items with the misconception that it is a healthier alternative as well as promotes weight loss. These misconceptions are becoming accepted as truth due to promotion by mainstream media such as superstar celebrities, athletes, and chefs who have attributed feeling healthier and losing weight to a gluten-free lifestyle. The perception of gluten free products as “healthier” shows the misconception that society is making. Choosing to go gluten free may be more expensive, may not be the weight loss diet you wished for, and may be harmful to your health.
For my senior thesis, I plan on creating a 15-minute podcast in regards to the misconceptions about gluten and my stance on how eating gluten is beneficial for those who do not have Celiac’s Disease. With the help of two communication professors, I will be writing a script, editing the script, and practicing my lines to develop a creative, informative, and entertaining podcast that can be available online. I am choosing to do a podcast because our use of technology is advancing and it is a great way to have my senior project available online and accessible to anyone and everyone who wishes to listen. My final senior thesis project will document the process of creating a podcast and will include my thoughts, feelings, and ideas in creating the information that I will present.
