The Importance of Morning Meetings In the Classroom

Over the years teachers have noticed the difficulty students have with transitioning straight to learning at the beginning of the school day. Therefore, the idea of gathering students together to share and conversate before any learning takes place became extremely effective. Morning Meetings are significantly important in the classroom, because it assembles a safe and respectful community within the students. Morning Meetings are sequences that include greeting, sharing, group activity, and morning messages. The observation will take place during the second semester of the school year, due to better classroom management. This can be explained as students being more familiar with classroom procedures such as knowing when to speak out respectfully, lining up correctly, where everything in the classroom is located, etc. This is what leads students and teachers being on the same page and having the same expectations. This study will examine the benefits and effects of Morning Meetings in a classroom setting- a kindergarten grade level classroom at Markday, a local private elementary/middle school. The overall goal for Morning Meetings is in hopes that students feel safe and accepted within their environment without the judgment of their skin or language they speak; for students to feel confident when sharing aloud with their peers and learn to respect everyone.
