Abstract
Breastfeeding knowledge and attitudes of nurses in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) were assessed and the effects of an educational intervention were evaluated. The educational program was presented to NICU and Pediatric/NICU nurses in a 9 bed Level IINICU. This program consisted of a questionnaire which measured the nurses knowledge levels and attitudes towards breastfeeding in the NICU. One week later an online educational presentation was presented to the nurses. After viewing this intervention, the nurses answered questionnaire to evaluate changes in knowledge and attitude. Eleven nurses took part in the Study. Outcome measures to be evaluated were 1) Improved knowledge regarding breastfeeding, 2) Increase in favorable attitudes towards breastfeeding. Comparison studies of the test results indicated an insignificant change in the level of knowledge among the NICU nurses after makeup of the sample.
