Abstract
This essay examines the history and traditions of poetic autobiography, as well as its impact on the current culture, including feminist subcultures and the psychological basis for its use in trauma therapy. I also discuss poetical devices particular to autobiography and demonstrate the application of them through samples from my own body of work: a collection of 32 poems written independently during the past ten years.
