Abstract
The decree Lamentabili sane exitu was a directive issued in 1907, as an answer to the hopes of many people and the needs of many others throughout the Catholic world. It gave the definitive answer to sixty-five specific questions by pointing out sixty-five specific errors concerning the teaching authority of the Church; the Aspiration, truth, and study of Holy Scripture, especially the Gospels; concerning revelation and dogma; errors on Christological Ideations; errors relating to the sacraments; errors concerning the institution and organization of the Church; and errors on the subject doctrinal evolution.~ These questions had been raised in the minus of Christian people, particularly Catholics, by teachers in positions of authority, and others within the Church, who had become self-appointed interpreters of Christian doctrine.
The innovators had gained for themselves a wide hearing. A large number of churchmen had been affected, especially the young. Catholics and Protestants alike in England, Germany, the United States, Ad, more particularly, in France and Italy, were reading the floods °L literature which came from their pens. Here they set forth a new Christianity, a religion shorn of the Christ they had once professed, but a Christianity, nevertheless, which in their opinion would save the world from unbelief.
