Abstract

Ireland’s struggle to obtain freedom and nationhood had been watched with considerable and sympathetic interest in the United States by many Americans of Irish birth and descent, particularly during the critical period from 1916 to 1922. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the career of an Irish-American priest, Father Peter Christopher Yorke, and to show his influence on the Irish Republican movement in the United States, especially from the Rising of 1916 to the establishment of the Irish Free State.
