Abstract
This project, which serves as part of the requirements for my Master’s of Humanities degree, which emphasizes on piano performance, is a guide to the Graduate Recital held on April 19th, 2007 at Angelico Concert Hall of Dominican University of California. The project provides information about Francis Poulenc’s 15 Improvisations in b minor and C major, Franz Schubert’s Sonata in a minor Op42, D845 and Claude Debussy’s L’lsle Joyuese. It presents the three composers’ lives, historical background, musical analysis, and their personal relationships with the pieces of music. It also demonstrates their influences on one another as musicians. Complete musical examples are provided for each of the pieces performed.
