The Garden School: The Spirit of Edgehill
Annie Reid
After the death of William Babcock, businessman and philanthropist, Edgehill mansion was sold to the Dominican Sisters in 1920. In 1946, Dominican College opened the The Garden School, which held pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes in the mansion. Sister Patricia Lyons was founder and principal of the school until it closed in the 1980’s.

Mary Sagues
In part I of her story, Sister Mary Sagues, O.P. (class of ‘51), reflects on her time at Dominican College as an undergraduate student from 1947- 1951. The second part of her talk focuses on her time as a Dominican Sister, teaching Music History and Music Theory, and as the Director of Admissions at Dominican beginning in 1957.

The Strength of our Roots
M. Patricia Dougherty
Sister Patricia Dougherty, O.P., PhD, Professor of History, presents on the history of the Dominican Order through the life of Saint Dominic and the founding of Dominican Order the founding of the order in 1216. She continues with the arrival of the Dominicans in California in 1849 and the founding of the Dominican College in 1889 through the present day.
Based on Campus Ministry’s lecture series, “We Come to Tell Our Story,” Heritage and History podcasts share through storytelling the rich heritage of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and others who have nurtured and empowered our university throughout the years.
The Heritage and History Lecture Series moved under the auspices of the University Archives in the Fall of 2022.
