Abstract
Math anxiety is the fear of mathematics and anything that has to do with it. The focus of this paper is on how teachers can have an effect on the attitude of elementary school children about mathematics. The review of the literature addresses math anxiety causes and treatment.
The research shows that it is not the step-by-step procedure for solving mathematics problems that scares students. It is the fundamental computation that makes students anxious. The research also shows the attitudes of teachers towards mathematics has an impact on their students’ attitudes, and can also create the anxiety.
