Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between athletic participation and self-esteem among adolescent girls. The study was performed on fifth grade females. A group of 20 girls participated in an after school athletic program for eight months. At the end of the program, 3 girls had dropped and the remaining 17 girls were given a self-esteem questionnaire. The same questionnaire was given to a group of 17 fifth grade girls who did not participate in the athletic program. The results show that the girls who participated in the after school sports program had higher self-esteem than the girls who did not.
