Abstract

The Kings Outreach Boys Ranch seeks $4,121 from the Tulare County Regional Arts Council for the establishment of a six-month Art Therapy Trauma Survivors Group. The Boys Ranch offers placement for clients who are dependent, neglected, abused or emotionally disturbed as well as clients with unusual needs. Empirical research and clinical literature indicate clients with similar histories suffer symptoms not unlike those of post- traumatic stress disorder. The three-stage Art Therapy process proposed for the survivor of trauma outlines the unique qualities of Art Therapy in the successful treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. The emphasis of the Kings Outreach Boys Ranch program is on whole person rehabilitation. Art Therapy effectively contributes to the development of healthy psychological, social, and interpersonal skills in the adolescent survivor of trauma.
