Abstract
This paper has presented the significance of tattoos for women. Responses from individual women bearing tattoos have provided pertinent information regarding the symbology of the tattoo as an art-form. Questionnaire responses of nine Californian women represented a limited sample of the tattooed women population in California. Extensive questionnaire responses provided in depth information regarding contemporary women's' need for personal choice and individual freedom.
