Abstract
This research examines the traditional Native American Medicine People of the southwestern United States and their use of the healing arts. The research design is historical, while a holistic healing orientation was emphasized throughout the paper. The specific areas covered in this paper are: 1) An overview of Native American art in the Southwest and its uses; 2) Native American Medicine People; 3) Art within the ritual process; 4) The relationship between art, music, dance, song, and storytelling in the healing ritual; and 5) The relationship between traditional Native American healers and present-day Art Therapists.
