The genre of the piece is modern literary nonfiction. The piece is broken up into five sections composed of several personal essays. The five sections are titled, Family, Basketball, Academics, Life Experience, and Faith. I wanted to comprise the piece of the five most relevant aspects of my life when contemplating what has shaped me as a person. The major themes include meritocracy, masculinity, and spirituality.
