Abstract

This study establishes what the standards of a youth development program are and evaluates three youth development programs at a rural high school using these standards. The study sample includes the advisors and students from the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA), and Leadership programs at the high school. The data was obtained through individual interviews with the advisors and four to five students of each program. Using the existing literature devoted to youth development programs, a rubric was developed to evaluate the programs. The results of this study suggest that the success of youth development programs can be evaluated using the rubric.
