Description

This thesis was born from a play I had written in 2022. This final piece is an adaptation from a playscript to a novella.

Gramacita, the colorful matriarch of the family, and her grandson (Max) have an unbreakable bond, but Max is keeping a secret from her. He grapples with telling her his truth, but Gramacita leaves this world before he does. After Max accepts his best friend’s invitation to a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, he begins communicating with his grandmother. By learning about his roots, he is able to make peace with Gramacita’s death. Will she make peace with Max’s secret, or did she know all along?
