Abstract

This paper outlines a grant proposal for children aged 7 to 10, designed to assist them in establishing and nurturing a sense of self and place in the world through their art. Art is more readily available than verbal means for children in expressing how they view themselves and the world around them. It has been proven that through artistic expression children can cognitively and emotionally develop their social identity. When children identify who they are in the context of the world around them through symbolic artistic expression, they become more conscious of their role in society.
