Abstract

The purpose of this grant proposal is to request funding to support services provided to teen mothers through Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. The grant proposes a strength-based art therapy group based on Positive Psychology, for teen mothers designed to help build upon the resiliency and strengths of each pregnant or parenting teenage mother between the ages of fifteen to nineteen years old. The literature review provides an overview of teen pregnancy and parenting, adolescent development, positive psychology, self-esteem, resiliency, group work, and the significance of art therapy with adolescence. The hypothesis to this study is that a strength- based art therapy group will positively impact self-esteem and resiliency in teen mother participants.
