Abstract/Description

Meghan Sherry

Art has endless possibilities, with my focus being graphics and dance. While art is fun and enjoyable, my love for art and decision to pursue it as a career stems from a passion to create works and share them with others. My art stated long ago with the beginning of my dance career. Since an early age I’ve been creating art that both makes me happy and engages an audience. From there, my longing for producing things for an audience has only grown. I draw inspiration from many different places, mostly coming from what surrounds me each day. I believe some of the best works come from unexpected inspiration, and that’s what I try to do with my art. At the end of the day, art is more a career to me; it’s a love for the form and a love for what I do.

Creative is a word that is very important to me as an artist, because being creative is something that I incorporate in and out of my daily life and art. Being able to create a physical expression of bliss is why I do art. Balance is a strong influence in the art I make. I feel that every aspect or element in most of my art piece tend to have some sort of balance in the composition. I feel an incompleteness if there isn't a certain feeling of equality of space on the picture plane. I do not think art needs to be symmetrical what so ever to have balance. Fluidity is a stylistic element that i have always have always admired when done in the right way. I love the elements of moving liquid, gel, gloss and glowing lights. Smoothness is also an element that I like to correlate with fluidity. Light elements are very important in my art, and tend to have a strong influence in much of the art I enjoy. I love bright colors, and high contrast. Light and color are very important in my art, and in some cases can be just as important as the content. Often the content in my art can look one way at first and look totally different after evaluating it for a moment. I love avant guard art, were one can recreate a plain day to day content into something extraordinary.

I consider myself one who lives art rather than just creates it. To me creating art is an experience that starts from within. I love to experiment with materials and try new things. I get inspired by the fashion and cosmetic industry. I use bright vivid colors, high contrast lighting, and glossy glittery textures. I work in acrylic paint, color pencil and watercolor on canvas or paper. When creating graphic art on a computer I love to work using Photoshop. The subjects of my art include exaggerated versions of normal items, people and environments. When I am working on an art piece it helps me relax and escape to a peaceful place. My name is Evan and art is my passion.

Art gives me an appreciation for life for it was through art that I regained the desire to keep fighting. At one point in my life I needed to make art to express my feelings. My visions for my paintings are so real I can see it in my head and feel it in my heart. The series of paintings I created for my senior thesis follow the many footsteps of abstract expressionist painters such as Vassily Kandinsky and Joan Mitchell. Abstract art is non-concrete and conveys something that you know through only feeling and emotion. It’s like looking through the world without glasses and all you see are shapes, lines, and color. As an artist I hope to bring someone joy and love and even put a smile on his or her face.
